Greetings!
I have a 30 year old bedframe. It has a head and foot board with metal bars connecting the two. On the wood corner posts is a slot. The metal frame bars are attached there. As the bed was originally being set up I remember my mother telling them to set it up in the middle of the slots for the height. Now, with a new mattress, I need the metal bars to be set at the bottem of the slots (lower). How do I do this? Do I just turn the bed frame over and pound really hard to get it apart and then is there another hinge of some kind in the slot to latch onto? I don’t want to destroy the bed, but I want to lower that mattress. Help!
Carleen.

I'm not the mattress factory (ha) but I think the metal rails have a hook on each end. It slips over a metal pin in the slot of the head-board and foot-board. That is the most common method, even though several are used now. I believe you can just lift it up and it will dis-engage. Sometimes they are a little sticky if they have been assembled awhile. You may have to use a rubber mallet from below to tap it till it dis-engages.
Have a close look at the assembly point first. I think this is what you will find. If not, post back what method is used on yours an someone will respond with the dis-assembly method.
Good Luck...

Thanks. I was thinking that may work, but it was really stuck and I didn't want to be hammering the whole frame apart if that wasn't the trick. I'll try it and let you know what happens. Again, thanks.

Just to be safe, look at both sides of the foot-board, rail connection. Make sure you see no pin release on either side. If not, it probably is a straight hook release. You migh shoot just a bit of liquid wrench or WD-40 on it an let it sit for a few minutes. Shield the wood and mattress before you spray. Just a little dab will probably aid.
Curious to know what happens.

It's on my list of things to do tomorrow. I will update. Carleen.

I have one of those also. I call it the never-ending list. As soon as I scratch one off the top, another one appears at the bottom. ha..ha..

Greetings!
Getting the beView Imaged frame apart was easy with a few hits of a hammer. Now, here's my new problem. I can't get it back together.
On the wooden bed frame (head and foot boards) are slots in the wood where the metal middle bars fit into. I can see how it was set in the middle. Now, I'm trying to get it in to the bottem. The slots are in the wood with no metal on the sides. The metal portions go back into the slot (on some corners, but not all), but they don't catch on anything. They just slip in slightly and miss the little catch places I can see in the slots. How do I ease the metal into those slots far enough to catch the little hooks for the metal pieces?
Do you follow me? I hope so. You've already been so helpful. Do you have ideas for this too?
Thanks,
Carleen.

Assuming there is a metal pin in the bottom slot, it goes in the same way as the middle. (Keep in mind, I cannot see this) I'm guessing that it won't go in quite far enough on that bottom slot to catch the pin?
A small deviation might be restricting it. Check for rust build up on the end of the metal rail. If so, file it off or use a wire brush. Same is true with the bottom pin in the H/B or F/R. Take a rat-tail file an clean it. Don't scratch the wood. Shine a flash-light in the slot an see if there is obstruction.
Are you trying to do this by your lonesome? If so, get someone to assist. When this thing is together, it is a basic rectangle, meaning four 90* degree corners. It will be difficult to hold F/B or H/B steady and insert the rail squarely by yourself. Someone should steady the H/B and someone should insert the rail exerting inward pressure. Put some making tape on both sides of the slots in case you slip. Put several pieces on top of each other to cushion. With that said, Don't Slip. ha..ha..
Something is keeping it from going in all the way. It should be obvious what is is. A third person should be there observing with a flash light while the other two assemble. They should be able to detect what the problem is using common sense.
Let me know if you have variations of what we just spoke about....
Close observation should get you there...

BTW, when you get the rail fully inserted; the second or third party should give it a light tapping down. Remember you had to tap it out, you will probably have to tap it down as the tolerances seem to be tight. That is good actually. A sloppy fit could mean a wobbly H/B or F/B.
I suppose, I've never assembled one; but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last nite. ha..ha..

I will try your ideas. However, I hate to say this, I am alone in this project.
It has occured to me that it would be easier with help, but I just try to prop things up and hope for the best.
I'm doing the funeral scene for the next day or two. I should be back at the bed scene soon.
Thanks for the ideas.
