? adjusting outfeed roll on Grizzly 1033
I am helping a friend adjusting and lubricating his un-maintained tools. I am having problems on a Grizzly 1033 20″ planer. Among other things adjusting the outfeed roll doesn’t seem to work. After putting blocks under knife and loosening the set screws from the bearing blocks I can’t get any space to get the feeler gauges into. Infeed roll adjusted as per manual. Any indications of the cause of the problem?? Also the bed rolls will not stay adjusted, they keep coming loose. Thanks Russ

Call their customer service center. They will have someone help you out. I had a question about my TS and called. They put me through to someone very knowledgeable about my saw, and answered the question in a couple of minutes. I'm sure they would have someone that could answer the question about the planer.
Do you have the planer manual? I recently purchased a used 1033 planer and I am tuning up mine also. Does not look like mine was well maintained either. The manual has specific settings for the roller springs and other set up data. I downloaded the Shop Fox manual, same machine, better manual. How involved are you getting with your tune up? Are you changing the gear box oil? Let me know how you make out.

Yes changed the gear oil and cleaned/lubricated everything. New eccentric shafts for bed rolls. Probobly will need new outfeed roll and bearing blocks. Thanks for reply russ
Russ,
Did you remove all the chains to change the gear oil? I'm thinking of draining the gear box and using some plastic tubing with a funnel to refill. How did you do yours?
B.O.B.
The bottle of gear oil had a slender conical tip on it. I taped a piece of surgical tubing to it and squeezed the bottle to get it into the case. Did not have to remove the chain or sprocket. good luck. And incidentally I found that the bearing blocks were severely worn and the cause of the problem adjusting the outfeed roll. Cure/ New bearing blocks. New pressure springs. thanks russ
