Advice: How to hang MDF sign onto wall / close fit over doorway
Hello I’m new and need some advice (and I’m hoping I’m putting this into the right category)
I had some street signs made from Etsy (they are made out of MDF) and my intention was to hang them over the doorway using the drilled in holes in the back. From the original order, I thought the measurement would be 9 inches tall so I would have no issue in hanging them up however when I received them, they are 13″ (right in the middle) so they fit exactly into the space above the door (making it difficult to use the holes in the back to hang them).
I need to know if there is another way I can secure these to the wall (I found that they need to have a special type of fastener) where I wanted them or should I scrap the idea and hang them someplace else where I can easily hang them.
Attached is a pic of the sign and the space above the door.
Thank you.
Chris.

Hey,
2-sided tape might work. The stuff will hold until you pry it off, emphasis on 'pry.' Or you could use said 2-sided tape to attach mirror hardware then hang your signs.
You'll get more ideas here. Keep an eye out.

Horizontal keyholes done with a router bit.
Would I be able to do that easily?
It is easy. You need a keyhole router bit. You plunge it into the work then move it sideways a bit. This is best done with a jig.
I do mine with a simple frame that means the router can only move in the desired direction and for the desired distance.
This youtube shows the technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miJtvpDPxxA
I think if it was me I would just use 3M Command Strip velcro fasteners. It has nothing to do with wood working, doesn't require any tools or skill but will get the job done and be removable if needed.
The MDF wouldn't be too heavy to hold it?
You can use several as you see fit plus if it's as tight as you say the door casing will support some of the weight.
I double checked and the weight limit is 16lbs.i doubt your signs weigh more than that.
Seconding @esch's point. Sticky fixers are the way to go here.
I recently used a 3m product that has a very high Tack VHB Tape on a project it its very easy to work with and it appears to have extremely tack and it comes in varying widths and lengths

Another idea: screw it into the drywall using black screws through the black letters. Countersink two pilot holes through the black sign letters and then tap through to mark to drywall. Install drywall anchors and after it’s screwed to the wall, touch up the screw heads to blend with the letters.
