Advice on first table saw purchase
I’m currently looking to buy a good quality table saw and this would be my first TS purchase. I was leaning towards a cabinet saw as a long term investment in a quality tool. I visited a local Delta distributor and compared an X5 Unisaw with a Delta 10″ industrial cabinet saw (no. 36-732). The latter came with 52 inch rip capacity and a commercial Biesemeyer fence. The salesperson informed me that both machines had the same motor (3 hp, single phase) and that most of the difference in price (1000$ canadian) was due to better rails and extension table on the Unisaw. Although I did not thoroughly compare both saws, mostly because I do not have the experience, the lower-priced TS seemed like a good buy.
Has anyone ever used the cabinet TS that Delta sells as an industrial cabinet saw? Do you know of any reviews for this TS model? I would appreciate any information. I am also considering looking into General contractor and cabinet saws (made close to where I live in Canada).
Regards,
Francois

General is a Canadian owned company with two different lines. The General machinery is forged and made in Quebec and is considered top notch. General International is imported and is more value oriented, but still very good quality. Don't see how you could go wrong.
Wood Mag rated the General 650 #1 over the PM, Uni, Griz, Shop Fox, Craftsman, and Jet.
Finewooding rated the GI contractor saw over the PM, 2 Jets, DeWalt, Delta, Grizzly, Bridgewood, Woodtek and others...
The GI cabinet saws (50-250/50-260) get favorable comments from owners. You might also consider the GI hybrid, 50-220"CM1" (get the one with the Biese fence options....30" or 50")
