Hi Everyone,
Im a fairly new woodworker and am still learning a lot with every project I take on. I came across a coffee table built from an old wine barrel online a few weeks ago and decided to try and make one for myself.
The idea uses 2×12’s as legs to cradle the barrel and I’m having trouble transferring the profile onto a 2×12 to cutout. I understand it wont fit perfect, as my barrel is beat up, and slightly out of round.
Looking for some advice on how to cut the 2×12’s
thanks,
Eric

You plan to make s horizontal or reversibale barrel table?
The table is upright in the picture ive uploaded. There will be a glueup of 5/4 boards as the top (not shown).
If I was doing this, I would use card board or some similar stiff paper and use scissors or an exacto knife to rough out the pattern. Keep trying until you get it close. Then transfer the shape to MDF and get it as close as you can. MDF sands easily and a spokeshave shapes it easily. Now you have the pattern, transfer this to your base (leg). You will have both a curve plus an angle, so expect to take some time with the spoke shave to make it fit tight.
Great idea with the MDF. Ill give that a shot. Thanks
How is it coming up?
I just finished it up yesterday. Not perfect, the flaws can only been seen when pointed out. Im happy with it. The
