Advise on choosing wood species for wood lamination (bending) for outdoor furniture
I found a picture of an outdoor lounge chair that feature bent wood lamination. In the past I have used bent wood lamination (gluing thin plies around a form) in various project but never to be used outdoors. I saw the attached photo and would like to try to make this outdoor lounge chair but not sure which wood species(s) to use. It looks like the attached photo is using 3-4 plies in the bend. What species is ideal? I’ve used Eastern Red Cedar (aka “Virginia Cedar”) on Adirondack chairs in the past with success. Top coat with General Finishes outdoor 450 product and like it. Wondering if on the inner ply I should use a stronger/harder wood for inside ply? Take a look at picture and please advise. Thanks in advance. You can also email me directly at [email protected]
