My name is Lou and I’d like to introduce myself. I’m a keen woodworker from Australia.
I’m after some help on Tusk Tenon Joinery. Namely what are the traditional angles used for the mortise and the tusk in this kind of joinery??
I’m presently in the process of designing this joint for a trestle style workbench I’m making.
See posts of some concept drawings (Not to scale) of the kind of joint I’m in the process of designing for my Bench
Any help……suggestions really appreciated

I just completed a trestle-style workbench base using loose (or tusk) wedges to join the stretchers to the legs. During the design stage I found this FWW article on "The mighty wedge" very helpful. http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/FWNPDF/011163048.pdf
According to that article, the proper angle for a wedge is 5 degrees. That's what I used, and it worked great. The base is solid and won't rack no matter how hard I push on it.
Hope that helps. And good luck with the bench. Be sure to post pictures of your progress.
I'd recommend the same article for determing the angle. If that doesn't cover it let us know and we can dig deeper.
