I picked up this saw at a Farmers market for $10. The handle finish was bad, so I cleaned it up a bit.
I got two questions:
1) Is this beech wood?
2) Anybody know anything about Aetna Saw Co.?

I found info on Etna Tool and Die company, is that the correct spelling? I can't tell from your pictures.

Here is a close up.
It must be old; all I can find is something about Aetna Iron and Steel company in Bridgeport, OH. That was back in the 1890s...

and this one

Looks like Aetna Iron & Steel should be associated in some way.
So I might be ripping away with a 130 year old Ohio rip saw in my Michigan garage.
...which is kinda cool right? I have some 100 year old hand planes and sometimes I can sense the leathered hands of previous craftsmen working wood "back in the day" (or at least I imagine I do).
