Air cleaner and dust collection system.
I am sure that tis topic is already out there somewhere but am new to this site and could use the help to start with. I would like tho purchase an air cleaner system and a dust collection system for my 28X28 shop with roughly nine foot ceilings.
The air cleaners that I have looked at so far, are the JDS 750ER and the Jet AFS-1000b.
The only dust collectors that I have really looked at so far is the JDS 14031 and the grizzly G1029z 2hp.
Are JDS prodects really made in the USA
Any Suggestions

Two suggestions:
1. Go here: http://billpentz.com//woodworking/cyclone/dc4dummies.cfm
for way more information than you can understand at once. IMHO he somewhat overstates the need for a cyclone system, unless you are as sensitized to wood dust as he is, but the information provided is excelllent. Especially take to heart the advice about getting removal down to 1 micron or less - the standard 30-micron bags really are worse than useless.
2. Search the archives on this forum for "dust collection" and you will get dozens of threads on this topic.
For myself, I just received a 2HP collector with the 1-micron filter cartridge from PSI. Looking forward to a virtually dust-free shop!

JDS air cleaners are made in the US. The JDS dust collector is an import.
My shop's about the same size as yours, and I believe the 750-ER is the current model of the air cleaner I'm running. It does a very good job. I've done a fair amount of reading over the past 3 years on the various air cleaners, and the JDS seemed to be the better made and more effective of those reviewed by various magazines.
DC suggestion: if you don't go with a cyclone, then a cannister-filter would be next in line, IMO. Jet, Delta, PSI, Grizzly and maybe Oneida all make them. 1.5HP - 2HP.

I've found the 1-1/2 HP machine to be a little underpowered for me. Still wonderful, and gets most of it, but I could use a little more suction on the planer and SCM. I haven't "done the math" yet 'cause it will be a long time before replacing the current Delta is even an option.

This is a link to a previous post where I gave my plans/design for a shop built air scrubber. I have a number of these shop built units in my shop, and they are rock solid performers.
