Air Compressor – Hitachi/Roll Air/other?
I am trying to determine which air compressor to purchase. I would like to get one of the twin tank 2.hp compressors as this would allow to me do some spray finishing down the road in addition to the nailing i need to undertake currently. i’ve looked into the roll air and the hitachi 2hp twin tank machines and both of these look good. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or have any recommendations for other brands in this category?
Also, from what i understand, the machines that require oil tend to be a bit quieter and last longer then the oiless machines. is this correct?
thx much, t.

I have a Hitachi EC12 twin tank air compressor. Works fine. The good. The price. The bad noisy, the drain valves on the tanks are of low quality, I replaced them with some from the hardware store. The pressure gauges are easily damaged because they are in a position that vulnerable to things being dropped on them. I replaced them from some from Grizzly because Hitachi wanted 26 bucks each for the pieces of crap. Take a look at the Porter Cable and Emglo I have heard good things about both from friends of mine.
I'd go with the Rollaire. Used to sell and service Rollaire and Emglo. Rollaire was the better of the two needing a lot less attention over time. We sold the small pancake and twin tank to contractors. Lots of heavy abuse and it was easy to see which ones came in for service more often.
I have had the Rolair for about 20 years, and never had a problem with it. It also travels without being tied down. It has seen plenty of hard use over that period of time. It is not too noisy either.
Don't overlook Thomas- best portable compressor imho........... Rol-Air would be my other choice. "the machines that require oil tend to be a bit quieter and last longer "............ generally true -Thomas compressors are the exception; they're oiless and quiet. Company has been around for more than 50 years......The two Thomas models I'd consider are the T200ST which I have and the T2820ST (more output, quicker recovery time, and even quieter than the T200ST and more $)

Tony: I'd like to second JC's vote for Thomas Renagade compressors. I don't use it very often but it is quiet, recovers quickly and seems well designed and put togeather. KDM

I got the Porter Cable model CPL6025 at Lowe's. 6HP, 25 Gallons, oil type compressor. I put a pressure regulator / moisture separator on it.
Used it every day for 5 years. No problem till just this last month. The pressure switch started failing. Ordered a new pressure switch yesterday - $70 including shipping.
This compressor was made by Devilbiss. I did receive about $80 worth of merchandise from Devilbiss because of a class action lawsuit. They, and most other manufacturers were over stating their horse power.
I think I paid about $350 for it.
