To All, I recently changed my rings, head, and gaskets to solve a problem of oil leaking into the tank and lines. My problem is that this corrected the problem but what do I do with the residule oil in the tank.(65gallon)Will this be a problem? I drained the tank to find oil in the water (2cups water to 1/4 cup yellow foamy oil). can anyone give me some advice?
Thanx, Lou

I would not worry about it. You will always find some oil in the tank even with a new compressor. An oil filter for your spray rig is all you need. Been around compressor and air sytems for 35 years and it's pretty common to find some oil in the tank. Most people don't do the plumbing of the air lines correctly. The main pipe should pitch to the tank and drops should have the "T" going up then drop back down. This keep the drops from collecting the water and it flows back in the main tank for drainage. This info is based on the techs at Ingersol Rand from years ago.
Hello Lou,
I agree with Ricki, you don't have to worry about a bit of oil in your holding tank if your system is designed correctly. In addition to the "t" from the top of your main feed, your tap should "t" from the side of your drop line and the drop line should have a ball valve at the bottom to allow clearing the line of accumulated water and oil on a daily basis.
Thanks guys, I will make the changes to my air lines asap.
