I live in an area with an abundance of cheap air dried hardwood. I recently bought a few hundred brd feet of varios hardwoods that was in a barn for 7 years. How can I tell if it is dry enough to use in furniture without a moisture tester?

Hi Mike, rule of thumb is that wood air drys to about 12%.. Takes 1 year per inch of thickness. Of course all of that depends how it was dried and then stored. Dead stacked vs stickered and what part of the country you live . I am In Virginia Beach so 12% is as good as it gets outside. In drier parts of the countru you may get to 10%.BobW
