Hi Woodchuck,
Unless we've reviewed specific products in our shop it's difficult to answer questions about one manufacturer over another. Additionally, I scoured our Web site and wasn't able to find any articles or product reviews on air filters. (looks like we've got some work to do)
I can say this, it is a good idea to have one, and it should be able to trap particles as small as 1 micron. As for size. Here is a good equation that I pulled off Amazon.com, that was posted by another woodworking magazine (which shall go unnamed):
"Buy one that recirculates the air in your shop 6 to 12 times per hour. Here's how to run the numbers: First calculate the volume of your shop in cubic feet, then divide this number by the cfm of the scrubber (filter) you're considering. The answer is how many minutes it'll take for one air exchange. Five minutes means 12 exchanges per hour.
