I am about to delve into using shellac. I have read all sorts of things I like about it. The question is, can I use regular out of the can denatured alcohol from Ace? They was some folks talk about it one would have to go to the liquor store and get a jug of 190 proof.
Thanks.

I started out using store bought denatured alcohol, and then switched to Behlens Behkol. I never noticed any difference, so I went back to the cheaper and readily available denatured alcohol. I tried to buy some high proof alcohol, at my state liquor store, but they told me, that the high proof stuff is not available commercially. I use so much shellac, that I buy the alcohol in gallon cans, but if you plan on using infrequently you should buy smaller cans, as it will absorb moisture over time and this can adversely affect the shellac.
*Good afternoon Jerry,I also use standard denatured alcohol from Ace and it works fine for me. I have never tried any other stuff.Best regards,Ricky Briggs.
*Just a point. "Denatured" alcohol and 190-200 proof grain alcohol is the same stuff. It's just that the "denatured" has had a poison added to it so it can't be drunk. This allows it to be sold without alcohol taxes.
