Which one of you guys that I got stuff from gave my address to Derek? Derek you’re a sneaky man let me tell ya. I’m thankful to you and the person who gave you my address because the marking knife and awl are amazing. Perfect grip, beautiful wood. Everything. Thanks to everyone again for the offers and the stuff I shamefully accepted lol.

So, (channelling Charles) now put it all to work!
What's your first step?
David C
My first step is buying more antique tools and cleaning them up (just kidding Charles). Actually it's thank you's.
I communicated to Ryan that I was withholding my shipment until he found himself at a concrete point needing to chop mortises. In other words, when he has identified a furniture project requiring mortises, had a design drawn (or picked out), and stock purchased and had started construction.
The young Mr. Cathey does seem to have a bent for buying and restoring antique tools as can be seen by visiting the WoodNet forum and viewing his posts there.
Ryan, get started building a piece of furniture.

I am I am. I just purchased some smalls on the cheap (really cheap) and will be building a box with some of it. I may even try dovetails. Albeit a box isn't really furniture as we were talking but it's considerably smaller than a table and it allows me to hopefully prove that all the donations were not an exercise in futility.
Do you have a subscription to the magazine.... a subscription to the online content?
Check out the series of hand tool project articles that Mike Dunbar has done. I recall a little Federal lampstand that would be an outstanding first hand tool only project. It has a dovetailed drawer, a veneered (over the solid) drawer front, and tapered legs.
Do you have time to post your current tool inventory?

No I don't have a subsricption. I'll get back to you on my inventory. Do you mean power or hand tools or both?
Please list everything that you could potentially bring to bear on an actual furnituremaking project - hand and power.
List everything even if you consider the tool to be cosmetically below par since the wood will never know if a saw handle has a broken horn or if a plane is missing some Japanning. These kinds of cosmetic shortcomings have nothing to do with actual woodworking, only the ooh and aahh factor if you give shop tours.
I was asked once if I wanted to tour somebody's shop. I politely declined and asked if it would be possible to see their living room. I assume you can figure out why.

While I have attention being paid I’d like to have a moment of silence for my beloved Dremel tool. A recent thunderstorm knocked it out. I really loved that tool.

Hey Ryan,
Sorry about trying to hijack your thread; got carried away, ya know.
Man, a couple of weeks ago on another forum when I complimented you on your plane rehab, I told you that, "You had come a long way, Grasshopper." Little did I know just how far! Here you are with some of the best talent in the world mentoring you, and sending you lumber and tools, no less. All deserving of a nice young man. Enjoy.
