I’m the Mount Maker at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Our carpenter just pasted away after 18 years on the job. I’m trying to put the shop back together after it was moved due to the construction of the new building. We have the manuals for the F 45 table saw, the Felder F-7 shaper and the Felder D751 planer. Manuals only go so far, it is not the same 18 years of experience. If anyone can recommend good books videos or user groups I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You
Philip

I am an F45 user and to my knowledge there just isn't anything available in print that explains panel saw usage well. This is an industrial machine and few hobby woodworkers will have any idea about how to use it. I suggest makeing a post over at WoodWeb (http://www.woodweb.com) in either Solid Wood Machining or Cabinetmaking Forum. If you can get hold of the Felder demo video that probably shows you how to use a panel saw as well as anything else I've come across (also shows the shaper and planer/thicknesser), but can't prepare you for the initial "pull" you get from the scorer when making a cut.
For practical assistance I'd recommend Eric Stephenson's book "Spindle Moulder Handbook" (ISBN: 0-85442-031-2) publ. Stobart-Davies and take a look at the British Health and Safety Executive website where you'll find a number of useful documents under Publications/Free Leaflets/"W"/Woodworking - particularly in heading "Machine Safety"

I agree with scrit...the stobart davies has the best selection of books related to the field which is a very small amount. You will find nothing really comprehensive on any industrial machine except the knowledge of someone who has been in the trades. That kind of knowledge is only gained by experience and passed from operator to operator. Old trade school text books only gloss over the machines and don't really show the real secrets and nuances. I would find a cabinetmaker in the area to show how to run it. An hour with an experienced operator is worth 100 times the effort to read from forums.
Philip, I can't help with the Altendorf but there is a Felder Owners Group (affectionately known as the FOG) at:
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/felder-woodworking/
It is very active and mostly about more current models however, it is a rich resource to me.
