I am planning on embarking on a table project and would like to add some light colored stringing (table will be mahagany) to the tapered legs. It appears that Holly and Boxwood are two veneers that are primarily used for this type of application.
I have searched on the web for Holly and Boxwood veneer with no luck, so I am thinking of an alternative. I have had suggestions of Maple, Sycamore and others, but do not know if there are downsides to using these types veneers.
Looking for one of two things. I source for Holly or Boxwood or good alternatives.

You can purchase holly veneer from Constantine's and Certainly Wood. I don't know about a source for Boxwood.

Have you looked for Aspen? I've seen it used in scrolling and other projects, it's a pretty, light wood.

I second the nomination for Aspen. And furthermore if you get wood harvested in the winter months it will stay white much longer then Holly, Maple or many other alternatives that will eventually turn dark. The cold weather prevents a fungus from growing which keeps the aspen white...or so I have been told. Dealers will sell Aspen as "winter harvested", ask for it by name!
Thanks for the pointer. I have some on order !!!
Cool! Let us know how the project turns out. I bought one board before Christmas, just to have it around when the need arises.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
