Am I the only one who “sometimes” communicates on Knots while at work? What else am I suppose to do, I’ve got 20 more years to retirement!!
I hope all other “workers” chime in so I don’t feel so bad.

I'm at work now. It's basically the only time I visit the forums.
I asked some questions on M L King Jr. day and nobody responded. Few people work that day...That leads to the conclusion that people only communicate on Knots from work.
i'm on a conference call!
I'm at work right now...but I work from my home so maybe that doesn't count?
Me too

I'm at work too. Using the Ninja-secret DSL line without the corporate firewall. Whoo Hoo! Working at a nuke power plant has its advantagesHomer Simpson
This forum is a nice break for me in between sales calls....
I'm at work. For about five more minutes.
I spent a fortune on deodorant until I finally realized that people didn't like me anyway.
Sometimes at work but not often.
I use the forum to "decompress." When I get home from work I am still running on adrenaline. 30 minutes on the forum and I'm ready to be a husband and father and the stress of the day is behind me. PMM
I WISH I could visit the forum when I work!!!
Work? What's that?
For those of you hitting Knots at work, doesn't the technology allow your "big brother" to review your internet activities?********************************************************

I was wondering why their conscience wasn't bothering them. Technology to catch them or not, common decency and a basic sense of morality would seem to preclude such behavior.
I would be willing to bet they have a veritable multitude of rationalizations for their theft. I'm not paid what I'm worth, everybody does it, I'm bored and don't have the brains or initiative to do something that would benefit the company,etc.------------------------------------
The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools. -- Herbert Spencer (1891)
That wasn't my thought at all. Without knowing the circumstances of one's job, I would not condemn.Heck, back when I was walking the corporate halls, the internet didn't even exist. But if it did, and I was working one of those 12-13 hour days, and I decided to spend an hour decompressing at a place like Knots, I wouldn't have had any conscience problems whatsoever. I was expected to get my work out on schedule, not account for every minute I spent sitting in that chair. No, I was just curious about the technology. I assume that anything that you do on your office computer is recorded somewhere on the corporate log.********************************************************

Never at work... I find no justification as we receive an average of 2500 sales calls a day staggered over 40 salesman 24/6. Visiting the inter-net is not a part of my "jobs" description and contributes nothing to keep my company afloat.
In return for dedication to the job... I am paid well. I get 8 weeks vacation (a week off every 6 weeks worked). The company has bent over backwards to allow me to work a 4 day week (Mon-Thur.) 8 hours a day 2 PM - 10 PM with no lunch break at my request but allow me to eat at my desk. If I need off for appointment, attend funeral, etc., etc.. or have a situation that I run late getting in.. just call and no problem.
In our slow months (muscle car shows and enthusiasm tends to run March-December) I am sent to the restoration shop where we are building 10 muscle cars for a movie production. If there is a need for a piece of office furniture not readily available for our 300,000 sq. ft. facility, I am sent home to my shop to build it and receive $50 an hour for my time at home which is spent in my shop dedicated to the job I was sent there for.
In my case.. the inter-net can wait as all things have their place dictated by the way you personally set priorities. :>)

Sarge, since you're in the Atlanta area and your company deals with the musclecar industry, I'm guessing you work for Year One? If so, cool job!
Morning Stuart...
Year One indeed.. If you or AB who just ask the same question need anything.. give me a buzz Mon.-Thurs. 2 PM - 10 PM at 1-800-YEARONE and hit x113 at the prompt and ask for Sarge. They don't even know what my real name is unless you are in payroll! ha.. ha...
If I'm on a call and you get rolled to the next available.. leave a name and number and be sure to leave the area code. I'll give you a buzz back usually within 20 minutes and if you remind me of Knots.. I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't pull a healthy little 20% discount from up my sleeve.
I'm off today, going to the Atlanta Woodworking Show tomorrow and on vacation next week if you call "finishing a kitchen table and chairs in my woodworking sweatshop" for my lovely a vacation. ha.. ha...
BTW.. I'm not on commission and instead of talk you into something.. you might find I would talk you out of something that I don't feel you need for your muscle car or another alternative. Just part of my job as my company views customer satisfaction as the most important product that goes out our door!

I've looked at Year One catalogs many times, but unfortunately my car is a little out of the mainstream so you guys don't carry very many things I can use...I have a '61 Pontiac Bonneville, with tripower and a four speed. It's a neat car but there are only a couple companies selling any repro stuff for full size Pontiacs.
Now, if I ever buy myself a Firebird or a GTO I'll be giving you a call. :-)
Yearone?
Morning AB...
Yep... see post 21 to Stuart for reply....

Sarge, I'll get around to posting a pic of one of my last projects soon, one I think you can relate to. A recreation of a '32 Ford Woody. Friend of mine asked me to do all the woodwork. We got hold of some real nice maple, and it turned out well. It's a rod, though, with a mustang engine, air, power windows, and a nice stereo. I'll learn how to post pics, one of these days.
Have fun at the show.
Howdy Creekwood...
I would be most appreciative of that. There has been talk tossed around in our restoration department of doing a woody if we can find one.. and if we can find one that is not a total rust bucket. We can re-build or duplicate a frame, floor pans, etc. but sometimes the cost an effort is not worth the pursuit.
I have an occasional customer ask if we sell any replacement kits for the older real deals (not customized and added). I have a personal interest in them myself as I went to HS 60'-65' when surfing on the west coast and The "Beach Boys" were everyday fare. Ahhh.. the good ole days!
Bring on the pics of the rod. Our "Blue Hoss" ( 68' Mustang with "Cobra" engine and "turbo-charged" to + 600 HP is not even close to stock). Same with the white with orange stripes 69' Camaro kit car we designed for the cover of "Hot Rod" magazine. Just a mixture of pooled thoughts from the guys. When the tail panel on it is a modification of a piece that came from Godfather Vans (customize)... you lost stock and concourse status. Sometimes you just let your imagination run wild without any real justification.. ya just do it cause it's fun.
P.S.. be sure that the pic has a surf-board hangin' out the rear and a tanned, bleached blonde California "beach-ette" standing beside it. Anything else would be a total in-justice to what "was" in simpler but "enjoyable" times past. ha.. ha...

good thing your not judgemental.....just because you can't conceive of an instance that it would be "ethical" to be on the internet doesn't mean one doesn't exist. most of the replies seemed "tongue in cheek" and light hearted.but if you feel it necessary to rail against the practice,....have at it.what was it about "throwing stones"?
i'm in the office an average of 70 hours/week...if i want to take a few minutes a couple of times a week to catch up on some woodworking information I'm not going to loose any sleep over it....
like most folks in professional type positions my work week is dicatated by the time it takes to accomplish my required tasks, not making sure i give "the man" my 40 hours...
chief engineer (I.T. guy) is a friend of mine
The dirtiest of all the four letter words.
Yet one more benefit to being self-employed.
Work for me is IN the woodshop. I get on my computer when I take a break during a glue up, or whatever.... I just walk to the house 450 feet away!
Jeff
That's a long walk, Jeff. Mine is only about 250 feet. That is one of the perks we have being self employed, to set the time we get things done.
Like someone said, woodworking is not a way to make a living, it's a way of living.
I look at it as job security. If I couldn't unwind a few times during the day with a Knots visit, I'd end up killing some of the people I have to deal with at work. That tends to elicit requests to clean out your desk.
If you build it he will come.
i jump on at work when i'm on conf calls that i don't really need to be on .... maybe i should think about not joining those calls. but, when would I get on knots then?
I couldn't imagine starting my computer at home to go on the forum, I have to look at one all day. I'd prefer to be in my shop.
I thought everyone was at their dayjob too!! ha!!
