Blue Print and Engineering Supply houses.
Chemicals in the yellow pages.
I think you might have a bit of trouble. Not sure of this, but, I think it is a process chemical in the production of methamphetamine.
Like he said...blueprint machines. Find an end user and you should be able to get it for free. We have a guy who sells the ammonia to folks with blue print machines and he has to take it back when spent so he "gives it to us". It's a hazmat issue so we are doing him a favor. Literally have gallons of the stuff. We switched to anhydrous ammonia in 100 lb tanks for fuming. Much faster results. You can usr the regular ammonia...just takes longer.
This is really wierd, but I just got off the phone with a local blueprint company looking for some. I want to try fuming some white oak for the first time. A one gallon container cost me $10. Its 29.4% ammonia.

Thanks for the replys,
I was unable to find it locally but I did find some in NY state.
$31 for 4 gallons @ 26% ammonia.
It costs slightly more to ship than its cost.

Find who they sell it to and ask for the spent ammonia. It's still potent for fuming. Should be able to get it for free.
John I am aware of its properties and I have read the articles. I have not done it before but the articles covered it well.
I found ammonia cartridges for my respirator , have fume proof eye protection and will be wearing elbow length gloves.
RickL I did try all the usual places but it seems the latest blueprint machines are ammonia-less. Even the distributor that used to have it no longer carries it.

It hasn't been mentioned here so far, and I feel it should be, especially now that you have found a source for the ammonia.
You are dealing with an industrial weight nasty chemical, you need to take full precautions when dealing with it. Any well written article on fuming should cover what you need to know to do fuming safely.
Since most articles on fuming also mention sources for ammonia, which you didn't seem to be aware of, I'm worried that you are winging this without adequate information on the risks.
