Anyone know anything about the New Anant Kamal Handplanes?
Or better yet, has here anyone tried one out?
They looked reasonable in cost and appear to come with thicker blades.

I believe there was an analysis of these in a FW issue a year or two back. I could be wrong (someone correct me) but I recall them not getting a great report card.
IMO, the new planes from Veritas are really nice quality at a very fair price.
I thought the Anant's Kamal line of planes was newly introduced... (last 4 months or so).. I just saw then on Highland's website and was just curious about them.. In any event it probably pays to pay a little more and go with a trusted name...
As I said, I could be wrong, thinking of another brand. I think Anant has been around awhile making junky planes, then introed a higher end. Could be the higher end stuff is okay. I'm not positive.
OK... Good to know about the old stuff...Thanks
In the review of those smoothing planes the Anant plane reviewed was not the Kamal but another one of their lines. I haven't used the Kamal planes, but I would probably go with an old, well-tuned Stanley or similar plane if you want a cheap, good one. If you want you can replace the blade with something thicker.
Thanks for the correction.
I have the low angle block plane and it isn't bad for the money, much better then the regular none Kamal.
I bought an anant rabbit plane a few months back and it took a little tweaking but I got it to run pretty good. It has a good foundation, but the action was a little sloppy. All in all worth the money spent. However if you could afford better than by all means go for the preamium, or look for a vintage tool om ebay or the like.
