hi dano
got mine this morning.
jack
*Yep, but never by moldings from anyone who can't spell moldings.
*Larry,Never sell anything to someone who can't spell "buy".b ;-)FWIW, I believe this is the same company that did this a few months back and Tim had e-mailed them a little note... apparently they don't listen...Dano
*But Larry, can we take advise from those who can't spell "buy"?
*Well, Dano . . . I guess our "buy" posts crossed simultaneously!
*I got this about a week ago. My guess is that in my case he got them from Badger Pond. I got two copies, one for an email address that I have never used here and have not used for over a year and 1 1/2.In both case somebody really has to do some work to get to the acutal address.
*Boy is that a good lesson. I think I'll bump it back to the top--but it's sure tempting to delete it 8^)
*Thanks folks for any mention of spam you get from this board. It's annoying to you and yet it is also inevitable. That being said, I will always follow up with an email to those who spam you (as a result of this board) explaining that this was an illegal use of our board. While it may do little to actually stop it, I think it's the least we can do. I would suggest putting into your email address some sort of interrupting set of characters that will thwart a possible spammer. Something like this:t[spambegone][email protected] of the users here have done that already. It should be obvious how to fix your address to anyone who is trying to email you legitimately. Tim
*I don't see how a little spam hurts, at least when it's related to wood working. The ones that annoy me are the "teen sex" propositions...Damn depressing to be constantly reminded of how over-the-hill I am.
*Tim,Thanks for addressing this. Actually, this was only the 6th or 7th spam mail I've received in about 5 years of being on line...It is rare when it can be traced back here, so I'm not being critical of your efforts, to be sure.I did try changing my e-mail address but, I couldn't do it without re-registering. Kinda defeats the purpose since my old registration would still be "harvestable". Never did get a reply back from SysOps on that question....No biggie, I'll just live with the one or two I get a year, wait until I'm in an ornery mood, send them a "love note", and block their e-mail.....b :-)Dano
*It's a choice, either making yourself easily accessable and exposing yourself to the solicitations that come from e-mail harvesters or keeping yourself more hidden. I click my delete button on e-mails about 50 times a day. I also chuck a ton of junk mail into the garbage. My index finger is stronger because of it.I won't point to Knot's as the cause, I'm quite exposed on the internet so I just accept it as a fact of life.Lee
*I dumped a sh_tload of spam/email/junk from my email site today and thought I heard a huge kerplop, hmmm, and I didn't take a second glance at it either. Thanks everyone ;-]
*Gee, I never get any spam.. I wonder what I do right?
*The secret to not getting as much spam is to not unsubscribe to the messages. This only confirms that the e-mail address they have works. Instead of deleteing the message select the block sender option. You can also use filters in your mail programs that will direct e-mail with certian key words to your trash folder or to any other folder for that matter. The idea that Tim Sams metioned only works if a computer is doing the harvest. If it is a person that collects e-mail address than that method will also fail.Scott
*I got one and deleted it with the "Block Sender Option." Let see if that takes care of it.Jerry
*About twice a fortnight I get pleading emails from 'Nigerian' citizens that have deemed me 'honourable' and 'esteemed' enough in semi-literate Eenglish that beg me to open up my bank account for the transfer of of dead Daddie's personal funds of gold bars that he managed to salvage from one the Congolese revolutions------oh my Gawd, yawn, yawn, extra bleedin' yawn. Block it, along with all the other get rich scams. I must have 400 or 500 blocked senders on my list. Slainte, RJ.
*When my local ISP (internet service provider)was bought out by Earthlink last year I was really PO'd, until I discovered the b Spaminator option at Earthlink. I now i rarely get spamas their Spaminator option filters 99.9% of it before it gets to my account. If I want to check the filtered messages to make sure nothing legitimate is stuck there, it's easy to do.
*I don't have a "private" Email address. How can I get one?
*Like Jamie, I use Earthlink's Spaminator. It definitely helps, but it won't get everything. Spaminator catches mail that comes from senders who over time have been proven to be pure and completely worthless junkers. New ones pop up every day that are not yet on the Spaminator list, and you may want to trash mail from some "legitimate" senders as well. Here is a teeny sampling of the senders I have set my machine's Outlook to automatically delete: Amazon, BlueMountain, DesignerMoulding (yes, I get them too), eBay, and Jesada. I may use these sites when I choose, but do not tolerate periodical advertising emails from them.I don't know what program you use, but Outlook and Earthlink have many tools to help with this problem. In addition to Spaminator, Earthlink allows you to check your e-mail through the Web. Junk mail can be cut off there before it ever tries to enter your computer. I have also stopped many viruses at that point. Seeing an unexpected long download start, I stop Outlook, visit my mailbox with IE, and quickly trash the evil email. You can check the Spaminator contents through the Web too, but there's no need unless you really believe that 6" can be added to various body parts.Outlook can set up set up junk mailboxes that you never see and get automatically cleared daily. There is one important tip that Outlook does not make evident: truncating sender addresses. Most senders use rotating addresses, like "[email protected]" today and "[email protected]" tomorrow. Your filter won't catch these new addresses. The solution is to edit the junk mail list for each new sender. Remove the "@" and everything that is to the left of it. Then you will stop everything from the offending domain.Hope these tips help,Dave
