I need help with a little project. I have an old toy box that I am going to fix up but after I’ve got it stripped and sanded, I’m lost. I really love the look of Pottery Barn furniture. It is painted but it looks like the edges are sanded (?) and then stained ontop of the paint and sanded parts. Is that possible? Also,
i if
that is how it is done, how do they keep the white so white? Here is a link if anybody wants to have a look:

Also, does anybody have a favorite stain color? I want something that isn’t too dark but that is really warm (in color).
I’m an abvious novice, I know.
Many, many thanks in advance!

hey, Cleaver, it's me! Is this an old box? If so, and you hav it stripped, you may not want to do the Pottery Barn thang (that's not a typo) on it. Wet it down with mineral spirits and see what it looks like--that is what it will look like with a clear finish on it like varnish. Do you like that? If you want the PB finish you wipe or brush on the base coat, then wipe or brush on the top coat. Sand through where there would theoretically be "wear" places. Then wipe a glaze of a stain and then a top coat of varnish. Call me!!! Our daughter does this finish on their commercial furniture. Better than PB.
