Hi, I recently purchased an old 36″ general lathe and have been searching online to find information on it. So far I’ve found very little though and I was hoping someone here might be able to help me. It’s grey and white speckaled and has two wooden platforms one for the bed and a second as a shelf lower down between the legs. It has an indexing wheel. The serial number is 16-238. I found one website that said if the serial number didn’t start with a letter then it was pre 1962 but I can’t find any confirmation of this anywhere else, and the General Service Department has not returned my email. If anyone can give me any information on how old it is and what attachments would work on it, it would be greatly appreciate. It’s an amazing lathe and in great shape I’d just really like to know its history. Thank you.

P.S. I decided to add some pictures, If pictures of any other parts would help please let me know. Thanks again.

The Old Wood Working Machinery site is the place to go for information on old machines. You can find information about the company, a large photo index that can help identify models and eras, and a publications download section that might, with luck, have a manual and a catalog for that model. They survive on donations so consider sending them a few dollars if they help you out.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have already checked it out, thats where I found the info that I do have. I was hoping to be able to date it better then that though. Any chance theres anyone out there who can help??
