Hello all,
I was wondering if any of you out there are informed about Morris Chairs because I have an old one and I would like to identify it. I have pictures I can send to anyone that can help me. I purchased this jewel of a chair so I could copy it and make one out of walnut, but on closer examination I found this chair to be different than others out there and it may have been made around 1890-1900. It is mahogany and thats very different than others, most are oak. Please can someone send me in the right direction to find out about this chair. If possible, and its worth it, I might try to restore it instead of using it for its hardware, (it is a little sad right now). So, any ideas? Please write me and let me know what you think. Thank you

Several of the Arts & Crafts furniture shops, including Gustav Stickley's, offered mahogany as an alternative to oak.
The book Building Arts & Crafts Furniture by Kemner & Zdila has a good brief history of the A&C movement and makes wonderful reading, as well as having several projects for your consideration, including 2 or 3 variations on Morris chairs. Perhaps the book would help you determine more about the Morris chair you found. Enjoy the chair.
You can find the book here:

Thank you Lee,
I will check that out and let you know what I found.
