I’m considering buying some teak furniture from Cabela’s online. It looks pretty nice, but I’m reluctant to buy it sight unseen because the shipping back can be costly and a hassle. If anyone has seen this furniture and can comment on the construction and joinery, it would help me a lot.

What?
Cabela's is selling furniture now? I think I'll get in line for my Lie Nielsen waders. ;-)
DO'NT BUY UNSEEN !
Century
This is 2010. The century has turned. Last year, a landmark was reached during the Christmas season-- more people bought online than in brick & mortar.
A lot of people buy a lot of goods and services "unseen", and the marketplace has changed to accommodate that.
Not to mention that it's nothing new-- chances are excellent that the very boards in the building you're sitting in were bought "unseen".
In a reasonably responsive market, there's nothing wrong with buying something unseen.
If you're not comfortable with that, whatever it is, step aside, and let someone else buy it, take delivery and enjoy it.
I'm not sure cast bronze waders would be a good thing.......... :)
Wish we could help...
Geez, Quick, wish I could help. There is a Cabela's store not tooooo far from us, but what with the ferry ride, it's a long day to go there. Fabulous place, and we'll go sometime this summer, but perhaps not soon enough for your decision?
Buy local
Find a woodworker in your area and have it custom built for you. You will enjoy the furniture more just knowing you had somthing to do with the design, and gave work to a craftsperson stateside instead of someone overseas.
cabelas furniture
my shop is right by a cabelas, and the furniture ,I,ve seen isnt worth the money they are asking.poorly made ,cheap imports.
make it yourself ,find a local craftman.and keep the money in this country.
Cabela,s
I live near one it would be about a 1hr. drive for me.
Thanks for the feedback. When I realized that I can't even buy the teak for what the furniture costs, I suspected the quality might be at risk.
Woodstone and FG,
Please don't make the trip on my account..............
Be Very Careful
I'm a cynic, but I will bet that the Teak is not Teak as you think or have been told . Teak, Mahogany and many other 'Name' species are treated as general, generic names in the International trade, and do not necessarily connote the true species. There is no outside control over the use of the words, and absolutlely no self-control on the maker's, brokers, shippers, distributors or dealers parts. I do not think Cabela's will know or care what they are selling, since they committed for so many containerloads, and it all must sell, period.
I certainly support the idea of hiring local people whenever possible. Do be careful with a local maker. Insure first and foremost that you contact a professional woodworker, not some guy down the street with a tablesaw. Teak is a wonderful wood, but requires care and experience to work with and make the most of its properites.
Like other high quality prioducts, it is often the greenest. There are 180 yr old Teak benches in use in England. Try that with any other wood.
Acorn
Actually, it's not all that uncommon for teak furnitire to cost less than you could buy the teak lumber. One reason is that teak producing countries have tacked on export duties on the raw lumber, but will allow manufactured items to be exported freely.
