I’m going to get my first bandsaw and hoped to get some feedback from some more experienced woodworkers. I plan to do a fair amount of resawing and would like a minimum of 12″ resaw capacity. I’ve done some research in woodworking mags/tool buying guides/ this forum and had nearly decided on the Special Edition Delta 14″ with riser and 1.5 HP for $850 at Tool Crib but then saw a lot of good feedback on the Laguna tool line and the Jet 16″/18″ saws. Now I see that Grizzly has two new bandsaws 17″ and 19″. Anyone with any experience with these (or other Grizzly bandsaws)? The 17″ looks like a complete knockoff of the Jet but for the location of the dust port. The saw sports an impressive array of features with 12″ resaw, 17″ throat, 2 HP motor, Euro-style guards, aluminum fence, and large table; all for only $825 delivered. Is this too good to be true?!? While I’m at it, I’ll also ask if anyone has used the Yorkcraft 15″ planer or the Grizzly 20″ planer and Grizzly’s new 8″ X 75″ jointer. The prices look great for the features offered, but didn’t know if these are all cases of “You get what you pay for”. Thanks in advance for any feedback! (I tried to post a similar message yesterday but don’t know what happened; sorry if it shows up in duplicate).

I've not personally seen the new 17" bandsaw, but in case no one has i wanted to mention that when i posted a question in the past concerning Griz other welded frame style saw peole said they weren't comparable to something like a Laguna, or Jet for that matter. Maybe the new ones are different, but if you compare weights you might find the answer to your question. They do make a 18" saw i noticed that was much heavier and also much more expensive on the next page in the catalog. It had a name like "super" duty or something. I think that saw is more on par with the Jet and laguna style welded fram saws. Maybe it would work just well for what it is, but mass is good.

Thanks for the input. Your comments were helpful and I'll look at the weight issue and also look a little more closely at the Jet line. Still would like to hear from anyone who has used the Grizzly bandsaws (particularly the new 17").
