I recently built some tables for a small wine bar out of Peruvian walnut (Nogal) and finished them with Osmo Polyx and the Osmo Top Oil because I wanted a very low sheen and the owner wanted something natural/non-toxic. Was my first time with Osmo but since a lot of folks love it and it claims to be very waterproof and provide good protection otherwise I figured it was a safe choice. The tops did come out looking great but they are already showing light scratches after very mild use. I’m afraid that in a few months they’re going to look terrible.
I also made a small table with a black walnut top and cherry base and finished it the same way. The Osmo took great to those and scratches aren’t an issue. What gives?
I assume it’s something about the more open-grained Nogal, but ultimately I really would love to know if anyone has had success putting a layer of a more protective varnish or harder wax or anything on top of Osmo to help protect a piece. I know you’re not supposed to be able to, but figured I’d ask anyway. Sanding it off and refinishing with something else isn’t really an option at this point and I can’t just keep re-applying Osmo every week to hide the scratches
Lemme know! thanks!

Bowling alley wax?
They have a low-sheen matte look right now, which I’d like to keep. I’m guessing bowling alley wax is pretty glossy? Or can you control that with less buffing?
