I am considering purchasing a 4 stage Apollo HVLP system that I have seen at the woodworking shows. I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge of their systems what to buy/not buy which needles and nozzles I might need. Anything that would help a newbie in the spraying world. Thanks

Well, first let me say I'm not an expert but just a hobbyist and have that the apollo 1025 for over a year now, and it is very nice sprayer pretty expensive but to me worth it. I've went from a regular gun and living in a cloud to a conversion gun that was an improvement to now the appollo. Absolutely beautiful. I got mine at the Saint Louis WW show and bought the sprayer and and got 50% (or something else) off the delux accessoriy kit. It has the extra caps and pins for different materials. The only pin I do not have currently is the one for latex, but I don't shoot that. I would reccomend the mini plastic touch up cup which I use the most since I'm not shooting large pieces. I bought a bag of 3 extra little cups to hold my finish and one with cleaner for quick changes. It's easy to break down and clean. The atomizer gun is a beauty as well. You can really narrow that spray down if you need to to hit a spot. Extremely low overspray. If I had it to do over I'd get the gravity cup also but still get it. I'm sure as a hobbyist I'll never justify the cost but so what life is short.

Thanks for the info bones. I live in St louis and was not able to pick one up at the show but have wanted to the last 2 years. I see that you dont reside in St Louis what brought you to the show? I went to their website and saw that they had their new 4 stage hvlp 1040VR with the atomizer on sale and couldnt say no. I am a little overwhelmed by the price of their items and accessories but I am like you and agree that it will probably be worth it. I would ask you if it took a long time to get used to and what finishes are you spraying. Did you buy any of the water based product they were selling at the show? Thanks for the info again.
I lived over in edwardsvill il close to the location of the show. Lived there from 10/05 till aug of last year. I move where the pay check's at. I do miss the Hill! Some of the best Italian food I ever had it that community. Take care. The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' - Renaldus Magnus
