are planer blades supposed to be arced??
I have a Delta 12 1/2 surface planer, I just finished sharpening several sets of blades that I have for it, I noticed on every blade that it rounded up in the middle, not much just enough to take more time to grind the blades straight. I figured it must happen from the wood being primarily run through the center of the blades but then again I have been wrong before. Have any of you had this problem and could it be the arc is supposed to be there ???? I sure hope not.

After sharpening a few times it's not unusaul to have the blades get sprung. The guys in the shop used to grumble about this but no one thought to ask what was going on. I cheked with our sharpening service and they explained how it happens. I just ask that they straighten them before they deliver them. Now it's not a problem any more. I have actually set the bent blades within .0005" but it's a lot simpler now. As I understand they have a special jig to take the arc out. As a metalsmith I totally understand the metal moving like that. In some ways metal has certain properties like wood. I've had them arced .040".
