HI, I AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING THE ARTS & CRAFTS SHELF IN THE OCT. ;07 EDITION OF FW. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TOP STRECHER. SHOULD IT BE 1/2″ THICK OR 3/4″????SHOULD IT HAVE A RABBET FOR THE TOP TO FIT INTO????? ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I’M JUST A BEGINNER. THANKS, DAN

If you look at the exploded view drawing it shows the top stretcher dimensions as 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 35 1/8" . So it should be 3/4" thick. It doesn't appear to be rabbeted for the top, but you certainly could if you sized the top piece accordingly.
That is a really cool looking piece. I am probably going to make something similar myself. I can't remember the last piece I made out of a magazine, but that one really does it for me.

You may be correct with your math Dan. I didn't figure it out, I just looked at the picture and it seemed at a quick glance to make sense to me. Don't let a plan get in the way of your project. They are just suggestions. Make the piece however makes sense and looks right to you.
