I have an Atoma 400X diamond plate that seems to have become dull. It is 18 months old and home shop used. I use it to flatten my waterstones (4000-13000) and am wondering if this will cause it to dull. I know it shouldn’t but the plate seems to be cutting very slow when I use it on a plane blade. It is the first time I have used diamond plates.
Does anyone have a similar experience or is the dulling my imagination?

You are lucky that you got 18 months out of it. I also bought one to use solely as a lapping plate for my Shaptons. After 4 months of very light use in a home shop environment, the center of the diamond bearing sheet delaminated from the aluminum plate. I sent it back for a refund, but definitely not worth the hassle. While it was functional, it was significantly faster than my DMT plates
I own both the atoma and the dnt and I much prefer the dnt Works way better and doesn’t gum up or get dull.
Thanks for the replies. It just doesn't feel sharp any longer. My 1000x Norton cuts better than the 400x Atoma. I guess I have a really good truing stone for my waterstones. Lol
