I am looking for suggestion on how to attach a solid wood top to a TV stand. The top is 1″ thick maple. The sides of the TV stand are 3/4″ maple plywood. Since the TV stand has glass doors I want a method that won’t be too visible but also allow for wood movement.

The little metal figure eights
The little figure eights are the most invisible, or at least more invisible than the wooden button method. The 8s are screwed into the case edge and the table top and pivot with wood movement. The buttons are L shaped and a groove would have to be cut in the case side, easy to do before the case is glued up, also easy to cut a slot with a biscuit joiner if the case is finished.
another point
Another point to consider is that people will naturally use the top to lift and move the furniture piece. That means using enough of the chosen attachment hardware to support the weight of the bottom section.
A good point about the weight of the case. Since the sides are plywood and the figure eight method has screws driven into the top edge of the case, perhaps the button method would be best. Driving screws into plywood edges might be weak. Also you only have three sides to attach because of the glass front. Just remember that the screws into the top must be no longer than the combined thickness of the top and the button less a bit for safety or you could have screw tips poking up thru the table top. Don't ask me how I know this.
