I plan to attach my acacia (koa) drawer pulls to the cherry drawer fronts using dowels. I am wondering if I can use yellow glue or whether I should be using something like epoxy. Appreciate the advice.

Since neither wood is oily you won't gain anything by using epoxy. Yellow glue, PVA, is stronger than the wood so I'd suggest just using your yellow glue, however...
In the next breath I'd suggest you consider a mechanical fastener like a screw. Threaded inserts, another option, are made for applications just like this one and a threaded insert or even a screw through the drawer box and into the pull would be stronger and certainly more servicable than a glue and dowel joint.
