We are constructing a base for a 150 gallon fish tank. The frame was built out of 2×6 and 2×4 pine for strength. We are attaching 3/4″ thick solid red oak to the frame with openings for several doors to access the storage of the base. My question concerns how to attach the oak to the pine frame. We are hesitant to just glue it to the pine because of the possibility of cracking do to differences in wood movement. However, if we attach it with screws and allow for movement, we are concerned that movement of the oak will cause the corners to missalign and not look good. Has anyone had any experience with this type of construction or any suggestions?

Think it through, make the needed allowances, and put it together. If seems to me that there is a web site (http://www.shrinkulator.com ? )that will give you the wood movement numbers.
And if you plan and make the allowances, you'll do just fine.
Support our Troops. Bring them home. Now. And pray that at least some of the buildings in the green zone have flat roofs, with a stairway.
