Hi Gary
I am building a demi-lune sofa table approximately 66″ long, 16″ deep, and 32″ high. Besides the top there are two shelves – the first about 7 ” below the top to hold a collection of small books and the second about 3″ from the bottom. My question is this – what is the best method for attaching the shelves to the four turned legs?
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Well you don't mention what shape the turned legs are so I'm shooting in the dark a little. You could approach this in several ways. First I would consider putting in rails to support the shelves. You could put flats into the legs and then mortise into those flats. This way your tenon shoulders on your stretchers could be cut straight. Or you could cut arced tenon shoulders to match the curve of the legs.
You might be able to also cut small notches into the legs to hold the shelves but only if the legs are big enough and the weight going onto the shelves not too very much. You could also try setting small rails into those notches, pinning them in place. The shelves would then rest on these rails. But this method depends upon the thickness of the legs so you don't weaken them with a notch. Good luck. Gary
