Attaching solid wood pieces to MDF cabinet?
Hi,
I have a quesiton about wood movement and attaching solid wood to a MDF cabinet I was hoping someone could help me with before I start this project. I have attached some pictures so you can understand what im wanting to do. I have a set of speakers that will be venerred MDF (pic 1) and im wanting to attach soild wood, in different thicknesses, to the outside of the cabinet to give them a Greene & Greene look like on the side of the Derrell Peart piece in the second picture. Im concerned face gluing the real wood to the veneered MDF cabinet will give issues with wood movement and will cause something to split. I dont want any vibration so I want everything tight. I was going to use biscuits to join the 3/8″ bottom and top rails to the 5/8″ vertical corner pieces..and cut a rabbet in the 5/8″ vertacal pieces and simply glue them to the corners of the cabinet and hold with my 23ga pinner. The 1/4″ vertical pieces I was simply going to glue and pin in place as well. Im undecited about how I want to do the top but ill cross that bridge when I get there! Any advice greatly appreicated.

Wood Movement
Maybe try attaching the solid woods by screwing from inside the cabinet into the back of the hardwood - make an elongated hole for the screw head.
