Hi to all,
I just signed up today on this forum and am looking forward to Many years of enjoyment. A little about me, I have been woodworking for about 20 years. I started in highschool and now build custom furniture in my own shop.
My question today is could anyone recomend any woodworker shows, clubs, or shops in Australia that would be worth visting while in Australia. We will be there between Nov. 18 and 26. We are going to Brisbane,Cairns,Alice Springs, And Syndney.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

And Syndney Oh geeeee.
Hi I live in New Zealand accross the ditch from aussie. First thing is you are going to be busy, australia is one hell of a big place unless you are flying all your time will be spent driving. But to your question I get a magazine Australian Wood Review you could try their web site and drop the editor a note. She was very helpful last time I had a question. http://www.woodreview.com.au. Good luck and hope that you enjoy your trip down under. try NZ next time.

I was in Australia once.. All they wanted to show me was Snakes and Spiders and Cricket?...

Presumably the infamous, very small, and mostly harmless One Eyed Australian Trouser Snake? Slainte.Richard Jones Furniture
Stop poking fun at us after all we were, in the main, chosen by the best judges in Mother England:-)

Will,
I have only stepped over 1 snake so far this year, and we were both asleep. (http://www.australianfauna.com/brownsnake.php)
Spiders keep the mosquitos and flys under control, and as most of our Dunnys are now indoors the prospect of being bitten is much less.(http://home.iprimus.com.au/michellejbailey/songs.htm#Redback)
The real purpose of cricket is to provide a venue for drinking beer in summer - this is why test matches are supposed to last five days.

Hi KD,
On top of your flight, you're looking at about 7000km/4500mi travel, so I'd factor that into the equation. There's a few good planners about - I'll google up one to make sure you've got the scale right.
Here's a link to a good planner.
If you're staying in the Alice, you probably are going to Ayer's rock as a guess - I think it's 200-odd k's either way (we tend to quote distance in "hours drive" here, not kilometres/miles - I've never been to Ayer's Rock, but I can recall hearing that it's at least 2hrs drive away)
Terry Gordon (HNT Gordon Planes) is about 2 hrs south of Brisbane - there's a day trip that might upset the other half. Otherwise, the suggestion to contact the AWR is a good one.
Not much in Sydney that you can't buy in the US.
Enjoy your time - sounds as though you'll be busy.
Cheers,
eddie
