I’ve just finishes making a cot for an iminent new arrival in February. Can you give me advice on a safe durable finish to use, that won’t take too long to dry as the due date is Feb 2nd!!!
The structure of the cot is built from american cherry.
Many thanks

Adam,
Congratulations!
Shellac is safe to use. It dries quickly, looks great on cherry and is safe. it is used in the food and pharmaseutical industry.
For a clear look, SealCoat is blond shellac will do the trick. If you felt like making some of your own, Garnet shellac will give a deeper look.
You can do three to four coats in a couple of hours and when dried well, rub it back with some very fine sand paper like 4 - 600 grit or just use a little steel wool or a grey scotch pad and some wax for a velvety soft feel.
Good luck ( on all counts)
Peter
Many thanks Peter.
I am going to take your advice with the shellac.
Best wishes
Adam
