Back into woodworking – jointer rebuild question
Twenty years ago I built a garage to use largely as a woodworking shop, and purchased a used Powermatic PM66 3hp cabinet saw and a Bridgewood 8″ jointer. Life laughed at my attempt to plan things, and to this day the equipment has not been reassembled since I purchased it. I’m trying to slowly get back into this hobby and am hoping some of you will be kind enough to share some of your knowledge.
First up – I am going to rebuild the jointer so that I can build a bed from some walnut that was milled from my property. And as a project with my 16 year old daughter!!! While the bed is separated from the base, and the motor is taken out, it seems to make sense to paint the base (it has paint marks all over it). Am I foolish to only paint the base, as opposed to the sides of the rest of the jointer? What should I do to prep the base – just a light sanding?
Thanks

I would just paint what’s been painted ,Idid one a few years ago and it turned out great just mask off what you do not want paint on and your good to go.
Just make sure what you are painting has no oil or grease on it if it does clean it off well, and no I did not sand the paint unless it was loose or flaking.
