I’ve just posted this in the Fine Homebuilding discussion and thought it couldn’t hurt to post here also.
“My first post here. I need some room in my small shop so I’ve decided to sell my Fine Homebuilding collection. All are in excellent condition. When I called Taunton, they told me that posting here would be more cost effective than an ad in the magazine. I’m not a professional but really enjoyed the articles and picked up some good info. If anyone is interested, I have issues 1 thru 167, missing 159 and 161. Asking $200 plus shipping.
I got an estimate of shipping at the post office of about $90 if shipped media mail to the west coast. Obviously, less to less distant addresses. If freight is cheaper, I can build an enclosed crate. I have no idea of the cost to ship by common carrier.
Reply to this message if interested.”

Er, John, maybe you should rethink your proposal.
Fine Homebuilding is offering all its issues on a DVD for $125.00. See http://store.taunton.com/onlinestore/item/021024.htm for the pitch.
Unless someone is really interested in the dead tree version, I wouldn't think there'd be that much of a market - especially at, what, 2.5 times the price of the DVD ($200 + $90 S&H = $300! vs. $125).
But, good luck.
I have a complete printed collection also and I think 200 dollars is about a toss up vs. the DVD. There is something to be said for actually holding the magazine. If I had lots of cash, I would consider both and use the DVD for search functions.
Good luck
Dave
I agree fully. There is something inescapably satisfying about holding a book or magazine while you read it. The spine sits comfortably in the palm of your hand and the printed word is laid out in front of you enabling you to drink it in and absorb its message.
Then, again, it's really convenient to be able to search for something and obtain the results in 2 or 3 seconds. And to be able to print out the article over and over again so you always have a fresh, unspoiled copy.Griff
I'll bump this back to the top one more time and if nothing comes of it, I will have to sit down and decide what my next step will be.
OK! I have come to a very satisfactory arrangement with one individual. It has left me with quite a few back issues. I propose to sell these for shipping cost and possibly a small handling charge so I don't have out of pocket expenses for boxes, gas, etc. The available issues are:110-142
144-156
158
160
162-175
All are gone! Thanks
You may be right but the shipping could be less if the buyer is closer than California. Not everyone is addicted to the printed word like I am. I will let it ride a while and see what happens. I wasn't aware of the DVD since I let my subscription lapse in 2005.
