It never really went away but sanctions and tariffs sure made it expensive. If your ready to pay $150 or so for a 3/4" sheet I don't think you'll have a problem. Try Macbeaths hardwood.
I just recently purchased a 4x8 sheet of 18mm for $92. They were also selling 5x5 18mm sheets for $75.
I did have to call around and found one lumber yard in my area (San Antonio) has a large selection in stock.
We never really ran out of it in Canada except for some large users but prices surely increased at one point.
It is worth checking the origin. Personally I am not using any Russian products.
Its frustrating that in Europe we can not get any real Baltic Birch (its the highest quality), while the US and Canada still have (semi)legal access...
