Woodworker who just moved to the Philadelphia area. I would love to know if there's a good place for BB plywood as well.
Did you ever find anywhere suitable? If so, I’d love to know!
I live in Philly and have bought 4’x8’ sheets of multiply plywood (not true Baltic birch but basically the same) from Harbor Sales in Delaware. They will cut for a small fee and deliver. But they used to sell B/BB grade but recently they’ve only had BB/BB, and a 4x8 sheet of 3/4” is about $75 so I would love to find a different supplier.
For the last year, Lowe's in my area has sold an equivalent to BB for 45 per sheet. It has the same number of plies as BB, is flat and stable, with no voids. I usually run away from home center plywood, but I have used this often, and it's very good.
If you want "real" BB, use Woodfinder to locate a good local hardwood dealer, and give them a call. They'll likely have a great range of plywood too.
Thanks for the comment. I’ve never seen multiply plywood in my local box stores... they have a birch plywood but the 3/4” version is 5 ply (vs the 13 ply on Baltic birch). I contacted one of my local lumber yards a while back and was quoted $120 for a sheet of multiply! You’d think it would be easier!
Sorry, just seeing this...lots of places to source Baltic Birch ply in the Philly Area. Try calling Fessenden-Hall in Pennsauken. They are a wholesaler, but I believe will sell to non-accounts on a cash and carry basis (when cover-19 commerce resumes). If they won't sell to you they can direct you to one of their clients (such as Williard Bros in Trenton).
Russell Plywood in Reading or New Castle. Woodcraft in Downingtown or New Castle. Delaware County Supply in Boothwyn. Lots of options in the area.
Good to see Philadelphia is well represented.
Not sure how far you wanna drive, but I just bought some from Wherung’s Hardware in Bucks County (45 mins or so from philly).
$55 / $39 / $26 for 3/4” / 1/2” / 1/4” in 5’ x 5’ sheets.

(They have 4 locations, the one that has hardwoods/plywoods is “wherungs specialties”)
