Hi, I have a 14″ Proma bandsaw It a great machine but when ripping thick planks of black alder the cut occasionally closes on the blade, stalling the machine. Anyone know how to stop this or Know how to get the blade out of the wood once it happens?

The blade you use can make a difference. At times, you may want a handful of small wedges. You insert them in the kerf as you progress. You can use the same process for getting the blade free, work some wedges in starting at the far end. Be patient and don't force anything, just work it a little at a time.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks for the postG
Try a blade with a lot of set. It will cut a wider kerf greatly reducing this problem. I also wonder if your fence is properly adjusted for drift.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike
Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don't have. You won't regret it.
Make sure the side that's on the table is truly flat. If it's not, it will try to twist the band sideways. If this is the problem, you can either joint it flat or attach it to a sacrificial board.
If what you're cutting is already flat, sticking a wedge in the kerf after you start should solve it.
