In the May/June 2000 issue of FW (NO. 142) on page 10, Walter Stanul wrote that he used a 1/4″ bandsaw blade for just about everything he did on his bandsaw. However, in the second paragraph there is a recommendation to which blade to use, but he doesn’t mention how many tpi. For those of you that have your past issues handy, any idea on the tpi he is most likely referring to?

I would have to guess 6 tpi, hook.
It's my favorite size blade too. I save the dull ones for cutting aluminum (1/4").
The bi-metal blades are the best to use for hardwoods. Check out the Lenox ones at carbide.com.

Louis Iturra (the guru of band saws) recommends Lennox.Regards,

Iturra is where I usually buy my blades. I didn't mention him because he doesn't have a web site and I was trying to make it easy. The proof is in the puddin'
Just got my new bandsaw, not even electrified yet (bummer) so I haven't tried any of the new blades yet. BUT - I was going to order some of the Lenox carbide blades and the gentleman at Mini-Max said to wait ... Lenox is coming out with a new line of carbide blades that will not have the (bad) characteristics (stress cracking perhaps?) of their current line. So, I went with Timberwolf. Again, I don't speak from experience, just tellin' ya what I heard through the grapevine.
Hello,
If memory serves me correctly ( I haven't enough coffee yet ), articles in FW have suggested 1/4 bimetal 6tooth blades for most work. Also, someone suggested that if your bandsaw wheels are less than 20", get a carbide blade no thicker than .025.
