I’d like to add a riser block to my 14″ Delta bandsaw so I can resaw wider pieces of wood. But it’s perfectly aligned right now and although the width is limited, it resaws quite well.
Am I asking for trouble by adding a riser block, or should I be able to easily get it aligned again for resawing?

Should Work Well
A riser block is machined flat on its top and bottom surfaces and there are a pair of pins in each face that keep the surfaces aligned exactly. All of this working properly to keep the parts in line is totally dependent on good quality control when the parts were machined and there you are at the mercy of the manufacturer. That said, I have put blocks on a dozen or more saws and have never had a problem.
Neither the faces of the block or the adjoining faces on the saw's frame castings should have a speck of paint on them, if they are painted the paint should be scraped off, a single edge razor blade works well. Also take a very light pass across the faces with a fine file to knock down any burrs and make sure that no dust or chips get in between the faces when they go together. A touch of oil on the pins and a helper to assist with the handling the top casting are also recommended.
Thanks, John. I guess the bad report I heard came from someone who wasn't careful about "clean and smooth". I'll do it!
I'm a klutz
I'm a klutz and I did it with no trouble years ago. I kept all the orig parts and short blades but now I know I'll never go back.
