One tire on my old Craftsman 12″ finally bit the dust after 30+ years. Would you believe that Sears Parts had the replacements! Putting them on skinned a few nuckles. Heated them in boiling water then used a couple vice grips around the edges to hold the belts while stretching. I had to run a 1/8″ metal rod around between the belt and the tire a few times to equalize the tension. Recon I’ll get 30 years out of these??

Nice save Mike..... When I got my new Jet 18" I was going to get rid of my Craftsman 12" but after some thought I decided to keep it. Not wanting to put any more money into it I resorted to gluing the lower tire on. It kept falling off. So far that's working just fine. Like you say, it was a bit of a chore to get it equalized and the glue didn't make it any easier but I finally did. Now I keep the small blades in the 12" and the big blades in the 18"... Wow, I just realized how lazy I'm getting.

Steve - I've often wished I had 2 BS's along with 2 drill presses, and 2 TS's. I do have 3 routers, which is nice. Don't know how many electric drills I have? At least 5.

Uh Oh... Don't be putting ideas like that in my head Mike. You know I have that Tim Taylor syndrome.
So hows the plane restoration business doing. Steve - in Northern California
Hey Steve -
It going great, at about the pace I want. I took a week off last week to help my mom out in AZ celebrate her 90th birthday. When I got back I had two orders that had came in. Two restoration orders a week keep me busy at the pace I can manage and still fill the plane wood orders. I have one guy sending me a "Circular Plane" to restore. He said that it requires a hand operated 'brace' to work. Anxious to see what the heck it is. I told him I would do it just out of curiosity.
Some day I may construct a thick wall steel electrolysis tank. That would enable me do more restorations. The only problem is the electrolysis will eventually eat the tank up.
