I AM LOOKING INTO BUYING A NEW BAND SAW. I AM INTERESTED IN ONE OF THE EUROPEAN MODELS SUCH AS LAGUNA, AGAZZANI, ETC. ITS PRIMARY USE WOULD BE FOR RE-SAWING. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPEREIENCE OR RECOMMENDATIONS? THANKS.

Rogue,
Welcome aboard! I have two suggestions:
1. We discuss bandsaws, European bandsaws, and resawing here all the time, maybe even continuously. Some of these discussions may still be available through the search function. Or they may not. Some users don't get useful results from the search. In either case, when you ask a frequently asked question without giving any evidence that you tried to find the answer, you give people the impression that you want them to do your homework for you, which is probably not what you had in mind at all. If you try the search function and can't get it to work, at least mention that you tried. Probably the most effective approach is to say that you read the archives and found lots of useful information, but that you still have a few questions. However, if you then ask questions that have been thoroughly covered, you'll be giving yourself away.
2. Please don't post in all capital letters. All caps is harder to read because with all the letters being the same size, the eye doesn't get the visual size and shape contrasts as it does when reading mixed caps and lower case, or even all lower case. In addition, by established internet convention, all caps is reserved for SHOUTING. Because it is harder to read and is reserved for shouting, using all caps (for other than shouting) may lead some people to believe that you are an ignorant newbie, which again is probably not at all what you had in mind.
Again, Welcome to Knots. Have fun!
UNCLE DUNCE, I LIKE TO DO THINGS IN CAPS. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT
Well, if you like to shout at people I'm sure you will get the attention you deserve.
I've had a 20" Agazzani for about a year and a half. I’m very happy with my saw. I did some careful research comparing it to the Laguna before I bought the Agazzani. In my opinion the Agazzani is a superior machine and Eagle Tools http://www.eagle-tools.com/index.html is excellent to deal with. Posts on several web sites indicate Laguna has been inconsistent with their customer service. If you want detailed info I can e-mail you. If you need further incentive, Sam Maloof, the FWW shop and Mark Duginske all use the Agazzani.
THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT. I HAVE VISITED THE EAGLE WEB SITE, AND BASED ON THE DIFFERENT BANDSAWS I HAVE LOOKED AT I AM LEANING TOWARD THE AGAZZANI. IT ALSO DOESN'T HURT THAT INDIVIDUALS KNOWN FOR THEIR BANDSAW WORK USE THIS SAME BRAND OF BAND SAW. THANKS AGAIN.
The saws that you mentioned are all good, solid, well preforming pieces of equipment. I own a Laguna saw for 4/5 years and have been very happy with it and the support from the folks at Laguns.
Is it the best saw on the market? I don't know
Can it cut material and resaw? yes
Is it better for a left or right hand feed? hummm?
You just got to do your homework, think of how you will use the saw and then buy.
Robert
Just like table saws, you will not get a shortage of opinions on what bandsaw to buy.
I have heard good things about the Agazzani, but eventually got a Laguna LT-18. It
has been all that I thought it would be, and then some. And there have been no
concerns with customer service. To help make your decision, try to find someone who has one in their shop, regardless of brand. Nothing like a test drive. You would not purchase an automobile without a test drive. In my very humble opinion, all of the European manufacturers of bandsaws make good units, so look around first.
There are several companies out there-Felder, MiniMax, Jet, Powermatic, Wadkin, Tannewitz, Bridgewood. Good luck.
Earlier this year I read about a new saw from Laguna that looked promising. Don't remember the model # but, it was a 14" with a 1 1/2hp motor. I believe it was American Woodworker that said this was the minimum one would want to attempt resawing with to prevent bogging and burning product.
