I bought the Jet 10-In. Band Saw from Amazon last year and I’ve had major problems with it ever since. Bought it at a great sale price and the size appealed to me with a very small section of my basement I use as my shop. The only poor user reviews were based on the packaging. Out of the box, the motor would not engage the wheels. I lowered the motor, which got the wheel spinning briefly but the motor stops with even the slightest attempt to turn the wood (I’m cutting curved chair legs in 3″ thick stock with a 1/8 in blade). The tension was off and admittedly, my attempts to correct it made it much worse. My shop is in a vacation home and there is no authorized dealer anywhere near me who’s open on weekends.
I want to replace it altogether. Portability is a big concern in a very small shop. Is a portable suitable? I need it mostly for cutting curves and tenons. If not portable, I may also consider the Grizzly 14″ with a mobile base. Any advice?
Thanks a lot.

Assuming you have the JWBS-10OS, with the 1/2HP motor, you should be able to cut 3" stock with the proper blade and feed rate, even though 3" stock is fairly hefty. You may be getting slippage in the drive belt, or you may simply have the wrong blade for the task. You might also be trying to cut too tight a radius curve within the kerf created by the blade, causing enough friction to stall the blade. Check the following for guidance on blade selection:

14" bandsaws occupy the sweet
14" bandsaws occupy the sweet spot for small bandsaws. Reasonably compact, but capable of doing high quality work.
