I am cutting some tapers on 3-3/4″ square legs made of poplar. The will be short (about 15″ long and for a coffee table). Any suggestions on which blade size and tooth configuration would be best for that purpose. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You didn't say what kind of bandsaw you have. You are getting into the range of resawing, so consider what you would use for that work
On my 14 inch Grizzly I would use my half inch blade with few (I think it is 3) teeth per inch. Even though most of the 14 inch bandsaws claim to support a 3/4 inch blade, that is marginal. If you have a larger bandsaw, you might go to 3/4 inch or larger.

You'll want the widest blade your saw can handle. Basically, the wider the blade, the less 'wiggle' you'll have as the blade cuts.
Personally, I cut tapered legs on the tablesaw using a tapering jig.

Sorry to argue with you, but a wide blade on a small bandsaw does not necessarily give you the best cut.
I was up at David Marks last month and he resawed some very tough wood (Purple Heart) with a 1/2" blade for a project he was exhibiting to our group.
The key to using a bandsaw is the setup. Tune the bandsaw for the blade and work and you won't have to worry about blade "wiggle".

A bandsaw is an excellent tool to use for tapering the legs of you project. 1/2" hook tooth would be a good choice. Go to Highland Hardware and look at their Wood Slicer (about $30 for a Delta or Jet w/o riser)._________________________________

That's a straight cut. Use whatever blade you use for resawing.
Thanks to all for the input.
I used a 1/2 blade with 3 TPI. Did the job nicely and rough spots cleaned up easily with the block plane.
I normanlly taper legs on the TS also, howvere, these were too thisck for a 10" blade.

You don't mention what saw you have, but I would talk to the folks at Suffolk machinery. They make timber Wolfe blades. When I bought my 17" bandsaw quite a few in this forum and other places recommended them. They questioned me how I would be using the saw and then made the recommendation. then did not just try to sell me the most expensive blade they sold either. The blades have been great.
Bones,
Thanks for the input. I will plan on giving them a call.
