Whats best way of starting a cut with a band saw circle jig?Do u have to make a access kerf thru the waste material close to final line to get blade in position?

the times i have done this i did not make a starting notch. begin with a good, SHARP blade and start slowly. let the blade do it's thing. notice if the blade begins to skid off your mark, back off, go slower.
